Lordship comes with a price
Name: Benjamin Reed
D.O.B.: March 31, 1977 (30)
Physical Desc: Standing at 5'10, Ben is every bit like his name: thin and reed-like, but not without some muscle. His ginger hair and aqua-eyes give him a unique appearance, and his features belie his Scottish background. And if his face doesn't give it away, then the hint of accent that peeks through when he says certain words definitely does. Depending on the light levels and type, people often mistake his eye- and hair-colour, naming the former anything from piercing blue to emerald green and the latter anything from sandy blond to light-ish brown.
Personality: He's quite the charmer, and very playful, but can be dark and brooding as well. He has a tendency to slouch a bit, and have his hands shoved in his pockets, so he often comes across as unapproachable, but he's really anything but. Ben is very protective of those few he calls friends, and his loyalty and devotion can sometimes be daunting to those that don't know him well.
He's a scholar by nature, but you wouldn't guess it by his choice of fashion and recreation. A major motorcycle-enthusiast, he's usually in jeans and a T-Shirt and sporting a leather jacket. When dressier clothing is necessary, he does the thing right and dresses impeccably, though he doesn't care for it much.
Ben is a huge fanatic of all things Star Wars and, in general, all things sci-fi. It's more of a closet obsession, and just how much of a fanatic he is doesn't show in day-to-day business. Get him together with fellow sci-fi fans, however, and he's out of that closet right-quick. Also, as a testament to his upbringing, he has a keen eye for art and is known to frequent the theatre and other cultural events that might be happening around town.
His defining quirk, however, is one that even Ben can't explain. Every time he's in one of his seriously moody funks, it rains, and everytime he's really pissed at something, a thunderstorm passes through. He has no idea what it means, and isn't even entirely sure that it isn't coincidence.
Former Deity Name and Pantheon: Thunderbird, Native American
General Deity History: The thunderbird's name comes from that common supposition that the beating of its enormous wings causes thunder and stirs the wind. It is described as being two canoe-lengths from wingtip to wingtip, and it creates storms as it flies. Clouds are pulled together by its wingbeats, the sound of thunder is its wings clapping, sheet lightning is the light flashing from its eyes when it blinks, and individual lightning bolts are glowing snakes that it carries with it. In masks, it is depicted as many-colored, with two curling horns, and sometimes with teeth within its beak.
Depending on the people telling the story, the Thunderbird is either a singular entity or a species. In both cases, it is intelligent, powerful, and wrathful. All agree that one should go out of one's way to keep from getting thunderbirds angry.
The singular Thunderbird (as the Nuu-chah-nulth believed) was said to reside on the top of a mountain, and was the servant of the Great Spirit. The Thunderbird only flew about to carry messages from one spirit to another. It was also told that the thunderbird controlled rainfall.

Mortal History: Born March 31 1977 in Scotland, just outside of Perth to a writer (his dad) and an artist (his mom). They moved to the United States when he was seven, moving around to several states before settling in New York. Benjamin alwasy excelled at school, and loved learning, and he always tended to lean towards the arts due to his exposure to them through his parents. He grew up cultured, and while he adored attending the theatre and art shows, he hated the formality.
The freedom of expression was his true passion, and he married the vocations of his parents, thereby finding his joy in life writing and illustrating manuscripts that would never see the light of day. He focussed his studies towards teaching, believing that the best way to influence society was not through writing compelling books and controversial paintings, but through educating the masses to love the freedom of expression and finding the beauty in the works of the Grand Masters.
Graduating University as a Professor of History and English, he found a place amongst the halls of New York University where he taught with some mild success. His loose and free-thinking nature, coupled with his brooding tendencies, put him at odds with the rest of the faculty, however his rapport with his students prevented them from doing anything more than tolerating him.
He's managed to out-stay his welcome, and New York University has found a lovely loophole to exploit: transference to another institution - namely Trinity in Washington D.C. - which is where Ben finds himself, checked into the Phoenix Park hotel until he can find a place either on- or off-campus.
Strengths: His loyalty, which makes him a true friend and someone to count on in a time of need. His charming and playful nature puts others at ease, although he does come off as a bit of a geek when he does so. Has the ability to control rain-fall, the type and severity depending on his mood. If he ever learns to harness the power he'll be able to join Zeus in the ranks of Lightning-Flingers Extraordinaire.
Weaknesses: His loyalty, which tends to give him a certain blindness to peoples's faults. As a result, he can be hurt quite deeply by those he cares about, and betrayal is a constant fear.
